Come on Over, the most successful of his career. The singer’s first album made no noise, but was followed by The Woman in Mewho cemented Shania as a country phenomenon with the hit Any Man of Mine, who broke the genre’s conservatism with lines like “Any man that’s mine / He better walk the line.” Determined to be a global attraction, she added heavy doses of pop to her successor.

She considered giving up on her career, but her job as a singer at a resort fed the kids and gave her a chance to pursue music. Later, at 22, she took over her siblings’ upbringing after her parents died in a car accident. With difficulties putting food on the table, her mother took little Eileen, then 8 years old, to sing in bars and help support the house. PUPIL – Taylor Swift with her diva: they share the journey from country to pop – Rick Diamond/Getty Imagesīorn in Ontario, Canada, as Eilleen Regina Edwards, Shania was raised by her mother and stepfather, who gave her the now famous surname. “You spend your life listening to the person and suddenly they’re dancing at your show,” he commented on Shania’s presence at a performance in Switzerland. “She also taught me that men are trash,” he joked. Between one song and another, Styles, who has his biggest fashion influence on the artist, confessed that he learned to sing listening to Shania in the car with her mother. The most recent example of this endeavor took place at Coachella in April, when Harry Styles took her to the festival stage to sing her career-defining hits, such as Still the One and Man, I Feel Like a Woman.

With interviews with the likes of Lionel Richie, Diplo and Avril Lavigne, the production shows how Shania, who launched into country music in the early 1990s, broke through genre barriers and established herself as an inspiration for artists who, now, with her sixth studio album in the oven, give the little push that was needed to bring the muse back into the spotlight and introduce her to the new generation. Two decades later, far from those golden times, Shania has her life and career revisited in the documentary Not Just a Girlrecently released on Netflix and accompanied by a collection of his hits now available on streaming platforms.
